We are adventurers, travelers, urban commuters, designers and photographers. We love to capture the beautiful world around us, even if that means flinging expensive gear into the enchanting perils of Mother Nature. We believe in the right tool for the right job, and we like always having all our tools right by our side.
Our mission is to enable active, creative, adventurous people to better capture and appreciate the beautiful world around them. Right now we are helping people better transport and handle their creative gear and everyday carry: cameras, lenses, binoculars, GoPros, laptops, diapers or any other lifestyle implement you can’t leave home without. You can bet your hiney that we’ll be expanding our product horizons even more.
We also believe that crowdfunding is the best way to bring our new products to life. We’ve launched over 20 products over the course of five successful Kickstarter campaigns. Our backers are the lifeblood of our company and we cannot thank them enough. Want to join our team? Check out our Careers page.
In 2010, a fresh-faced, Minnesota-born, good-to-know-ya lad named Peter Dering went on a 3-month trip around the world. During this trip he learned that carrying a DSLR camera is a pain in the touchis. He returned to his San Francisco apartment and did what any responsible person would do: quit his nice job and spent 10 months designing a little thingy-dingy for carrying cameras.
Our Big Break
Peak Design got off the ground in May 2011, when Peter launched the Capture Camera Clip on Kickstarter, hired his first employee, and garnered a community of 5500 like-minded backers who immediately began sharing feedback. Peak Design took that feedback and made more stuff, and they took that stuff back to the Kickstarter community in 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Peak Design now has 14 employees and over 20 products. They have won multiple product design awards (IDEA, Carryology) and are by many measures the most successful repeat project creators in the history of Kickstarter.
Making stuff is fun. Even little kids know that. We like to think of the Peak Design office as a grown-up version of a preschool arts-and-crafts table with fancier materials, louder tools and about the same amount of pants-peeing. When it comes to making stuff, we believe that less is more and that simplicity yields elegance. We believe that versatility should be baked in so that our products are used in ways that we never even imagined. We believe that there’s always a better way to solve a problem and that we should never stop trying to improve our gear. Lastly, we believe that people who use and love our gear deserve a lifetime guarantee.
We didn’t start this company to put on suits and act all hoity-toity—that’s what New Year’s Eve is for. With that in mind, say hello to the Peak Design team. We’re a rag-tag posse of rubes and bumpkins who have banded together to make badass camera gear, and also make use of group booking discounts at the Olive Garden. Want to join our team?
